This painting immediately brought to my mind a scene where different walks of society conflict. In Ragged Dick, Dick is a member of the working-class in society, similar to the painters in the background. However, on this particular Sunday, Dick belongs to a higher-class, as he goes to church with Mr. Greyson, and then walks with the family down Fifth Avenue to a nice restaurant. It is interesting to see these two social classes depicted in the same setting in both this painting and in Ragged Dick.
